We need to redefine rural development in China against stereotyping binary opposition of “urban-rural” design. Rather than over-stress the rural social, economy contextualization, it’s equally important regarding it as a prerequisite for solving the problem, responses to the site, users, potential visitors, and future development potentials. Great South Slop, a small village with a tiny population, located in Xiuwu County, Jiaozuo City, is a renovation project with great opportunity to explore the sustainable development in rural area.

大南坡项目位于河南省焦作市修武县，是一个乡建项目。我们认为在面对“乡村”设计的时候，应对常规理解的“乡村”概念作出再思考，避免过度的以“因为是乡村，所以要......”的思维定式作为解决问题的先决条件，对场地、使用者、以及未来可能性的回应也是不可或缺的重要因素。通过这个项目，我们很好的观察了设计与使用者之间的互动，以及乡村建设功能性的重要性，并为其发展的当地性、可持续性拭目以待。
